Narture is an artist collective based in Ayr, to nurture the arts, respecting nature. Our primary earning arm is BREAD, at 3 Cathcart Street in Ayr, where we bake sourdough bread, sweet and savoury pastries with an emphasis on the health of the gut, to earn the dough to fund arts projects. We use traditional baking methods and techniques and make everything from scratch in our open plan bakery.


We are looking for someone with a real passion for artisan bakery to join our small team committed to being innovative. The right candidate will have good handcraft bakery skills to produce our slow fermented sourdough breads and viennoiseries, including croissants, brioche and lots more. The position is a part time position of 20 hours per week to begin with, timings and days to be agreed, with at least 4 hours per week committed to experimental baking. The position is expected go to a full time position after the probationary period. The right applicant will have an enthusiasm for artisan baking. They should be able to show a degree of confidence in managing their own time effectively, and be resourceful in bringing new ideas to the table. Ultimately we want people who are passionate about handcrafting skills and sharing their enthusiasm with our customers and patrons. 

Key Tasks:

  • Work as part of an innovative team.

  • Slow-ferment bread preparation and baking sourdough products.

  • Lamination work and preparation of pastries.

  • The baker will lead shifts in absence of the head baker.

  • Product development and seasonal specials.

  • A small amount of admin in keeping HACCP records and working with orders

  • Assist in daily clean down and aspects of full clean.

Essential requirements:

  • The ability to demonstrate good baking skills and a passion for sourdough products.
